Music
At Seaford Middle School, students engage in music by building on the foundational skills learned in elementary school. Students that participate in performing ensembles hone their skills by participating in weekly small group lessons and full ensemble rehearsals every other day. These rehearsals take place during the school day as part of their academic rotation. The ensembles perform two concerts a year, showcasing their growth and new skills to the Seaford community.
The Middle School also offers extracurricular activities, including the Woodwind Ensemble for flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, and oboe players in all three grades. This group performs chamber music from various historical periods at the Winter and Spring Concerts.
Our mission is to foster a lifelong appreciation of music-making while building on student strengths and creating a sense of family and community.
Seaford Middle School's music educators are providing Seaford students with critical artistic and cultural lessons that will serve our young learners for life. Please find more information on individual teacher webpages for more information.
Students enter Middle School armed with the basics of their instrument. Vocalists, wind players and percussionists further hone their musical skills by attending one small group lesson a week and a full ensemble rehearsal every other day. These rehearsals take place during the school day as part of their academic rotation. These ensembles perform two concerts a year to show off their new skills to the Seaford Community.
The Middle School offers extracurricular activities such as Woodwind Ensemble for the flute, clarinet, bass clarinet and oboe players in all three grades. This group performs chamber music from different time periods in history at the Winter and Spring Concerts. In the past, they have played for other events such as the Women of Distinction ceremony sponsored by then-Assemblyman Thomas McKevitt.
The Jazz Band is a select extracurricular activity composed of 6th, 7th and 8th grade band students, NJHS members and scholar athletes. Students who play instruments such as guitar, bass and drum set are also welcome. The ensemble's goal is to introduce students to music genres they would not have the chance to play in a concert band setting, including Swing, Funk, Latin, Pop and Rock. The Jazz Band performs in both the Winter and Spring Concerts as well as seasonal community events (Time Permitting). Students meet as a full ensemble weekly along with periodic sectionals. Rehearsal schedules are given out at the first rehearsal each semester.
Drama Club is advised by the music staff as well. Students across all three grades prepare a musical to be presented each spring. Under the current advisory team, students have performed musicals such as, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Jr., the first musical to be performed since 2019, which was a tremendous success, The Little Mermaid Jr. and The Lion King Jr.
Our mission is to foster a life-long appreciation of music making while also building on student strengths and creating a keen sense of family and community.
